Sometimes a termite problem isn’t difficult because the termites are hard to find or to treat. It’s difficult because the construction of the home makes it almost impossible to reach the areas where termites can hide, and that need protecting.

That was certainly the case at this Mount Martha home.

This solid construction was solid indeed! The property hadn’t allowed for termite protection barriers during the build, and because of termite activity in the neighbourhood, it meant potential for concealed termite entry. However, when our technicians began investigating how best to protect the home, they encountered something we hadn’t seen in more than 20 years in the industry.

The concrete surrounding sections of the home was more than one metre deep.

Normally, when installing a termite treated zone around a property, our technicians can drill through concrete pathways to reach the soil underneath and apply the termite treatment.

But at this property, our equipment simply couldn’t get through the concrete.

Rather than settling for a compromised solution, we kept investigating. We tried drilling in different areas around the property, but the extraordinary depth of the concrete needed additional expertise.

We contacted BASF, the manufacturer of the Termidor® termite management products we use, and worked with their representatives to find a solution for this unusual property.

It wasn’t a quick process. In fact, it took around six months of investigation and drilling in different locations before we were able to find a solution.

Finding the solution

With BASF’s technical guidance, we moved the treatment point approximately one metre away from the house. Using 600mm drill bits, we were finally able to penetrate the concrete and reach soil where the treatment could be applied.

We also used BASF’s newer Termidor® HE application device, so our technicians could complete the treatment effectively despite the property’s unusual construction.

After months of persistence, we completed a preventive termite barrier for this Mount Martha home. Relief for the owners, and relief for us!

This case is a great example of why experience matters with termites. Every home is different, and occasionally a standard approach simply isn’t going to work.

After more than 20 years in pest management, this property presented our team with something we’d never encountered before. Rather than give up or take shortcuts, we worked with the product manufacturer, investigated different options and kept going until we found the right solution.

When it comes to protecting a home from termites, sometimes the most important tool you can bring to the job is persistence. And that’s what Pest Police is known for. 100% success rate, because we don’t stop until we find a solution.
