German cockroaches can be one of the most persistent household pests to control. Once they move in, they can spread beyond the kitchen into other areas of a home. This was the situation our Pest Police inspectors found at this property in Springvale, a very unwanted German cockroach infestation.

As expected, most activity was concentrated throughout the kitchen, where access to food was easier. However, cockroach droppings were also found in bedrooms, indicating the infestation had spread further through the home.

The inspection further identified several conditions making the problem more difficult to control. Food scraps were present throughout the kitchen and a number of rooms contained stored belongings that obstructed access to perimeter skirting boards and other areas requiring treatment.

Mould was also identified around the bathroom window and surrounding areas, which required separate attention.

These findings are important because successful German cockroach control isn’t simply about treating the cockroaches you can see. Our technicians need access to the cracks, crevices and other hidden areas where cockroaches may be living and breeding.

A comprehensive cockroach treatment

Because activity was present in multiple areas, Pest Police carried out a comprehensive cockroach treatment rather than concentrating solely on the kitchen.

A targeted treatment was applied to cracks, crevices and harbourage areas throughout the kitchen and bedrooms, along with an internal treatment of accessible skirting boards, areas behind furnishings and potential entry points.

Insecticide dust was also applied to the roof cavity, kitchen wall cavity and subfloor to target less accessible areas.

Outside the home, a full perimeter treatment was completed around external walls, window frames, eaves, gutters, downpipes and potential pest entry points.

Why follow-up is important

German cockroaches are persistent, and a significant infestation will often require more than one treatment.

For this property, Pest Police recommended a follow-up treatment after 14 days. Improving cleanliness, removing food scraps and providing clear access around skirting boards were also important steps in supporting the treatment and achieving the best possible outcome.

This Springvale home demonstrates why professional cockroach control involves more than spraying visible insects. Finding where they’re harbouring, treating inaccessible areas and addressing the conditions supporting the infestation all form part of effective pest management.

If you’re seeing cockroaches during the day, finding droppings or noticing activity spreading beyond the kitchen, it’s worth getting investigated before they spread throughout the home.
